In October 2026, I hosted the first Bug art cafe. The invitation was purposefully very open: come as you are, we will be doing maybe some drawing, maybe some talking about art or insects; we meet what is alive in us and will start from there.
I used a range of natural materials as a basis for creating a "home" for the future insects; we draw around the different shapes, allowing us to work without overthinking and just flowing with the activity. Next, I invited the participants on the floor to draw shape of insects. Here, the floor provided us with a great texture which is possible to notice in some of the creations. Finally, I invited the participants back to the table after we cut out the insects and place them back.
During creation, we talked about what actually identifies an insect, that wasps have three special in-between eyes and other fun facts.Â
